REAL/Easy Database Repair

There are times when working with a database that data can become corrupted or damaged. This can be caused by collisions in data traveling back and forth, processor activity, memory allocations and hard drive activity. Be aware that this is not a common occurrence. We may see something like this only about 6 times a year from all our customers combined.

This is when repair utilities come in handy.

From START click on CONTROL PANEL

Look for and double-click on ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS

Look for and double-click on DATA SOURCES (ODBC)

Usually deciding which part of the database to repair is determined by a support call to our Helpline. We are going to choose the BACKOFFICE  database as the damaged area.

Highlight BACKOFFICE and click on CONFIGURE.

The database name is displayed and the path to the database. If this is correct click on REPAIR.

If this looks correct, Click on OK

Your database is repaired

We have found that the Microsoft® repair tends to change security settings when repairing database files. If you have BOS users that are in the EVERYONE group only, you will have to fix that.

This is the Security tab on a database file that has not been repaired.

This is the Security tab on the database file that we just repaired. Note that EVERYONE is missing.

So to start with, let's find the database file in Windows Explorer. Where ever your database resides, server or your own workstation, normally it will be in the BOS\DATA folder.

Now Right-Click the database file you repaired.

Select Properties from the menu

Click on the Security tab

As you can see, EVERYONE is missing. Click on Add

Click on Object types

You may need a user name and password

Select Groups and click on OK

Also click on Locations to make sure you are on the right computer

Type in Everyone and click on OK

Highlight Everyone and click on the Full Control box the click on OK

You are Done!
